South Shore Yacht Club

A yacht club terrace above a Newport marina at golden hour

Founded in 1957, per its SCYA listing. Members dine through an affiliation with Newport Beach Yacht Club in the same building, with a public marina in front.

Why the house keeps it

We keep South Shore because it is the one yacht club on the harbor that publishes the price of the door — $900 to join and $120 a month, with a 30-day trial to prove the fit. Around that honesty sits a full club life: theme dinners, Catalina cruises to Avalon and Two Harbors, Duffy days and the Commodore's Ball. It calls itself one of the best priced yacht clubs in Newport Beach, and on the published record, it has the receipts.
